The Ashtabula Harbor's lighthouse was established in 1836, and rebuilt again in 1905 and 1916. The light has been automated since 1973 and is still active. The original Fourth Order Fresnel lens was replaced in 1995 and the old unit is currently on display at the Great Lakes Marine and US Coast Guard Museum in Ashtabula. This museum was the original Keeper’s house for the light and offers spectacular views of the harbor, coal dock and lighthouse. The light is located on a long breakwall that could be very treacherous to walk to the light, so the best way to see it closely is by boat. The light does not offer tours, however there are hopes of renovation work to be completed at an undetermined date.
